Is he the funniest photographer ever? Yes, he is. Thomas Mailaender’s photographs are a sort of satire about the human being. They show all kind of people doing all kind of crazy things. From acrobats to people holding massive things on their hands, Mr. Mailaender portrays his own world. His work feels free. The artist is always ready to laugh at anything or anyone. Even himself.
His work includes different series of selfportraits. One of the ones we like the most is ¨Self-portraits with $$$$$$¨ in which the photographer appears holding XXL checks that are given to him by different corporations and foundations. What we really like about Mailaender’s work is that it makes us question what is true and what is not. Often using a snapshot aesthetic, the photographer tricks our eyes over and over.
Stunts, stunts and more stunts. This is what Mailaender likes: make us think that everything is possible and unbelievable at the same time. Showing us that life is hilarious and worth laughting at.
